Further reading of Howard’s work on WikiSource turned up a highly UNsympathetic poem entitled “Lines to G.B. Shaw” – here’s the link: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Lines_to_G._B._Shaw . So much for THAT idea! Still, this leads me to wonder if you might have discovered and written about Howard’s grounds for objecting so stridently to Shaw (with a derogatory reference to the Whitmanian “yawp”) as he does here.

As I recently learned of the connection between Robert E. Howard and H.P. Lovecraft, and their barbarism/civilization debate, it occurred to me that the fascist implementations of American-developed eugenics policies might have had something to do with precipitating the disillusionments and untimely deaths of both writers. I also suspect that Howard was aware of and sympathetic to the Shavian variety eugenics that emphasizes the female’s choice of mate in natural selection, and was wondering if your research had turned up any sources of evidence for any Shaw-Howard connection that I could look up.
